I illustrated the visuals for the published booklet Nanihtsulyaz ‘int’en (Do things gently) ʔes zuminstwáx kt (We take care of one another). These illustrations were directly informed by teachings and knowledge from an incredible group of Elders living across this province, who hold roles within B.C. post-secondary institutions. The finished work is a beautiful booklet that shows how Elders support the mental health and wellness of students and staff in these places, and how crucial it is to support these spaces for them.

We met throughout 2022 in a very intentional way. The focus was on relationship-building and on creating the space and time to make sure the illustrations reflected exactly what each Elders was envisioning to accompany their teachings in this booklet. This project was one of the highlights of my visual career, and I have taken this way of working with me through the rest of my visual art processes.

It was an honour to have collaborated with these amazing Elders, and I was very well-supported by the BCcampus team.
